In vetro fertilization (IVF) is one of the methods of solving infertility problem. It is a complex series of procedure used to treat fertility or genetic problems and assist with the conception of a child. During IVF mature egg are collected from ovaries and fertilized by sperm in a lab. Then the fertilized egg(embryo) are implanted in uterus. IVF is the most effective form of assisted reproductive technology. It can be done using ones own egg & the partners sperm or IVF may involve eggs, sperm from a known or anonymous donor. In some cases a gestational carrier .

IVF can be time consuming, expensive and invasive if more than one embryo is implanted in the uterus, ivf can result in a pregnancy with more than one fetus (multiple pregnancy).

  • Blocked or damaged fallopian tube
  • Male factor infertility including decreased sperm count or sperm motility
  • Women with ovulation disorders, premature ovarian failure,uterine fibroids.
  • Women who have had their fallopian tube removed
  • Individuals with a genetic disorder

       STEPS IN IVF


  • Fertility medication;it is prescribed to stimulate egg production and a transvaginal ultrasound is used to examine the ovaries and blood test samples are taken to check hormone levels
  • Eggs are retrieved through aminor surgical procedure that uses ultrasound imaging to guide a hollow needle through the pelvic cavity to remove the eggs.
  • The male is asked to produce a sample of sperm which is prepared for combining with eggs.
  • In a process called INSEMINATION, the sperm and eggs are mixed together and stored in a laboratory dish to encourage fertility.
  • The embryos are usually transferred into the woman uterus three to five days following egg retrieval and fertilization.

Ivf process involves an operative procedure, these are the associated risks of infection anaesthetic risks and haemorrhage.

  • Decreased urinary frequency
  • Shortness of breath
  • Faintness
  • Severe stomach pain and bloating
  • Ten pound weight gain within three to five days

      SIDE EFFECT AFTER IVF

  • Passing small amount of fluid
  • Mild cramping
  • Mild bloating
  • Constipation
  • Breast tenderness
